Friday Five 8/28/15
If anyone out there is following my Friday Five series (hopefully someone other than my mother!), you know I missed putting last Friday’s post up. I was so disappointed in myself because the post was all planned out but I didn’t get around to scheduling it before I left on Wednesday.
I’ve been traveling for work, and even though I thought I took extra precautions to make sure I had some form of internet access on the road, I ended up having none for four days. It sucked. But, it was a learning experience and it taught me that I really need to get all my posts scheduled before traveling – I seriously hated how I felt knowing that a deadline had passed and there wasn’t anything I could do to change that! On the plus side, check out how awesome my view during dinner was? I was in Goa for a little over a week, exploring and researching for work.

How to track Instagram referrals in Google Analytics
I love analyzing data and Google Analytics for my site and others than I manage keeps me busy. I’ve always wondered why of all the social media referrals Instagram isn’t listed? Caitlin does a great job explaining why and how to ‘fix’ this issue – I know bit.ly, I get quite a bit of traffic from instagram. It’ll be good to finally be able to track just how much thru Google Analytics.

So in prep for my trip to Europe in November, I thought it would be fun to learn German. I’ll be traveling to Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary…out of the three languages, German seemed like the easiest. Heh. That’s an understatement. It’s Day 4 today, and boy is it a challenge. I’m grateful that I speak French – it’s making it easier for me to grasp concepts. If you’ve been meaning to learn a new language, I cannot recommend Duolingo enough – it’s free!
How to create a custom travel map with Google Maps
I wish I had known about this a week sooner – I was wandering around South Goa not knowing what to do because I couldn’t connect to my Evernote notes (couldn’t get the data on my phone to run). Yeesh! Having a map handy and pin-pointing everything that I can visit in a particular region is so helpful – I’m currently using it to plan my upcoming trip in November!

Paribus – Get Money Back When Prices Drop
Paribus, a newly launched Brooklyn-based startup aims to track price changes of purchases you make, file claims with retailers on your behalf for said price change to get you refunds! How awesome is that?! All you have to do is sign up for the site using the email address you generally use to make all of your purchases, and they work in the background to automatically save you money. You can find out more how they work here, but for people that shop online a lot (aka me), this is amazing.
It’s a little terrifying just how fast time is going by. It’s the end of August…whaaa? There’s so much I want to get done before 2016, now I feel like it’s going to be a race against the clock. Gotta get my butt into gear!
